You are accustomed to numerous farm gates if you live or work on a farm, either used as an entrance to your pasture or to keep your livestock secure. There are however a few variables of steel pipe farm gates that can have a significant impact on each gate's particular application.
You need to consider the coating options (galvanizing or painting) best fit the requirements, which mounting options (scanners) are optimal, and which wire or covering would be better for the particular needs of each gate.
Access Styles
You will need to decide which form of farm gate fits your requirements best. As mentioned below, there are various types of farm gates to choose from:
Bow gates: A pedestrian gate inside a farm gate is a bow gate. The farm gate is 4m high, for instance, and the pedestrian portion is 900mm wide. Usually, the farm gate is 1.2m wide, but the pedestrian portion is around 1.7m high. The installation of the pedestrian gate stops pedestrians from climbing and damaging the farm gate. They are simply able to walk through the pedestrian area.
Access to livestock: On many farms, livestock gates are normal and are used to hold livestock in their enclosures. Great examples of this are the famous Van Schoor W-gate and the economical H-gate. You may select them to be made of a heavier metal or lightweight material.
Livestock gates: The Cattle kraal gates are designed to withstand cattle pressure and thrust, and the inside is not wired, but is made of a pipe and flat steel combination. With diamond wire inside, sheep kraal gates are prepared.
Field gates: At the entrance or exit to the fields, a field gate is used and can also be used around the farm's roadways. For this application, the Van Schoor W-gate and H-gate are common choices. For more frequent use, you can select thicker frames and for less frequent use, thinner frames.
Options for Frame Cover
Find the cover choices that best fit your needs after you have looked at the various types of farm gates. For the development of farm gates, pre-galvanized steel, which is galvanized in a steel mill, is used.
Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) galvanized steel, which is ideal for extremely rust-prone areas, is another alternative. The product is first produced in this galvanizing process and then sent for galvanizing to an HDG factory. Paint and gate frames painted after they are made are the most economical covering for the gate door.
Different Options for Mounting (Hinges)
You should also remember the various types of mounting options available when looking at farm gates. You can select from hinge bolts that will be mounted on poles which are common on farm gates. Wall plate hinges are a choice for wall mounts for farm-style pedestrian gates.
The type of gate you have selected should be considered, as some which fit one type of mount over the other. As this will help you choose the best mounting type, you should also think about how your gate will be used.
The Latch and Lock
You can look at the various locking mechanisms of the farm gates, depending on how your gate will be used. Without the need for a lock, most gates remain closed, while others have to be locked. For farm gates, ring and hook mechanisms are standard, spring catch mechanisms are used for pedestrian gates, and a slider for protection and pedestrian gates is also available.
