Agricultural Irrigation Pipes for High or Low pH Values

Modern farming depends very heavily on plumbing infrastructure, especially if it is something emerging, such as hydroponics or aquaponics. Choosing the right agricultural irrigation pipe for your farming system can be difficult, considering how many levels of pH values you have to go through in the agricultural or food processing industry.

Steel Pipes for Irrigation

Steel piping infrastructure has been in effect in the agricultural industry for over half a century now. These days you will find several types of metal pipes in farming, such as:

  • Aluminum pipes
  • Galvanized steel pipes
  • Stainless steel pipes
  • Chromium nickel-copper alloy pipes

How pH Values Affect the Choice?

The first thing you will need to consider while choosing agricultural irrigation pipes is the quality of the water that shall flow through them. There are three main factors here:

  1. Composition of the water
  2. pH value of the water
  3. The effluent of the water

All three can stress the quality and requirements of steel irrigation pipes. For the most part, corrosion is the main issue and the pH value factors here the most. Galvanized steel can withstand high pH liquids, but the zinc gets dissolved in low pH values (<6.0) and the steel gets exposed. If you expect low pH water flow a lot, stick to aluminum pipes.

The food processing industry has a different problem altogether. Their waters carry effluents with very erratic pH values, often high or low. For scenarios with highly fluctuating pH values, your choice of agricultural irrigation pipes must include stainless steel pipes.

Characteristics of Agricultural Irrigation Pipes

For the farming industry, the pipeline infrastructure must have some specific properties for it to be practical and durable. An agricultural irrigation pipe must have low flow resistance, with roughness in the vicinity of 0.008. It should have pretty high tensile strength, not less than 45 mpA. Other mechanical properties, such as good compression strength, are also desirable for steel irrigation pipes.

If your site is in a rather remote location, transportation and installment can be an issue. In that case, you should choose convenient transportation and installation over other properties. In such a scenario, PVC agricultural pipes can be your best friend.

Talk to your irrigation system designer; they should design the system in such a way that there is no secondary pollution flow that can contaminate the original water. The pipes themselves should be completely non-toxic, with service life extending 50 years or so, on paper at least.

Your agricultural irrigation pipes should be able to withstand a lot of pressure. They need to be at least one and a half times stronger than the designed pressure. The walls of the pipes should be uniform, with an error margin of less than 5%. The cross-sectional shape of the pipes should not vary either. Make sure the connectors are not leaking.

An Overview on Steel Pipe Bollards for You

The terms steel pipe bollards may never have crossed the head for people who don't work in the defense, landscape or architectural industry. However these metal pipes are an integral part of most street landscapes. And though they are mostly unnoticed, there are steel bollards everywhere. How to Use Steel Pipe Bollards? In other words, the bollard of a steel pipe is a concrete-filled pipe which is positioned in front of businesses, passageways and other areas into the ground. The pipes are used in a number of ways, but the most common ones are: Safety : Look for bollards for steel pipes the next time you go to the bank or ATM. There's a possibility they were there but you didn’t notice. Steel pipe bollards are used to avoid vehicle interference and safety infringements in front of banks and ATMs. Ornamental elements often are incorporated to make stainless steel pipe bollards visually enticing, but a solid piece of implanted metal beneath the glitz and glam avoids burg...

Agriculture Irrigation Pipes: A Basic Guideline for Farmers

Farm irrigation systems are also essential elements like fertilization, drainage, soil quality and pest management systems. This entire irrigation system is a complicated yet effective solution for better outcomes. An agricultural irrigation pipe carries water from the source to a specific farm sector. This entire system works through the attached sprinklers. The farm irrigation system has evolved throughout these decades and is available in numerous materials, sizes and designs. Furthermore, if  you want to purchase quality pipes, contact experts in this industry who have been serving clients for decades.  What are the Parts of an Entire Agricultural Piping System? Remember that an irrigation pipe is not just a pipe; it's more than that. This entire piping system consists of a pump, water source, pressure regulator and filter. It mainly collects the water from the origin and delivers it to the root of crops.  What are the Different Types of Irrigation Piping? There are ...

Most Prevalent and Popular Uses of Used Oilfield Pipes

The oil and gas industry is the biggest consumer of the steel pipe industry. At the same time, there are also the biggest providers of used oilfield pipes . The oil and gas industry demands solid and robust pipes for their operations. But after a few years of usage, these pipes lose their strength and thickness. Even though these used pipes are not strong enough to carry oil and gas across the country, one can still use them in several other industries and sectors. Here are a few examples of such sectors. Different Uses of Used Oilfield Pipes Construction Construction is one industry that consumes most of the used steel pipes from the oilfield. They mainly use these strong pipes to support heavy structures. They sometimes also use them as piles. Some construction companies even use these pipes as scaffoldings. With the help of these pipes, they quickly get access to the different corners of the building. Shipbuilding Projects Shipbuilding companies also purchase these used pipes for th...
